A US senator has called on the National Basketball Association (NBA) to terminate its contract with sports brand adidas because the German company has proposed moving production of players’ shirt from New York State to Thailand.

Senator Charles Schumer, who represents New York, has told the media in the US that he had spoken to NBA commissioner, David Stern, about the matter at the end of November, telling him that 100 jobs were at stake at the outsource manufacturer that currently makes the shirts in the town of Perry, which is 80 kilometres south-west of Buffalo.

Adidas has said its plan is part of a company strategy to consolidate its supply chain.
