Outdoor Retailer to push fly fishing as special show closes

The organisers of the Outdoor Retailer exhibitions, Nielsen Business Media, has announced that it will take steps to increase the presence of the fly fishing category at the Summer Market edition of the show.

The development has come about because the company has decided not to continue with its stand-alone FlyFishing Retailer event.

Group show director, Kenji Haroutunian, has written an open letter to the outdoor retailer and fly fishing communities to explain. In the letter, he says that research indicates that active participants in specialty outdoor activities, and fly fishing in particular, cross over to several outdoor lifestyle experiences. He says: “As consumers change how they play in the outdoors, businesses are changing their distribution and inventory strategies to both keep pace and stay ahead of this changing consumer behaviour.”
