Gore announces new solution for hunting gear

W.L. Gore & Associates has developed a new “concealment pattern” called Optifade for use in clothing aimed at the hunting market.

Specialist clothing brand Sitka will have gear featuring the new pattern in retail stores by summer 2010.

The pattern is based on how deer see and was developed by a group of experts, including an animal vision scientist and a leader in military concealment; Gore claims it is the first textile solution of its kind to consider how a hunter appears in the eyes of his prey.

Optifade allows the hunter to blend with the animal’s perception of the environment, stopping the animal from being able to identify the hunter immediately as a predator.

“Optifade Concealment is a game-changing technology in the sport of hunting,” said David Dillon, hunting category leader at Gore. “We have put our considerable scientific expertise toward developing gear and a concealment pattern that addresses conditions unique to tree stand hunting in a wooded environment.”

The new Sitka line will also incorporate Gore-Tex and Windstopper technical fabrics, reflecting the need hunters often have to endure adverse conditions.
