Polartec launches 'revolutionary' softshell fabric
04/12/2009
Performance fabrics manufacturer Polartec has held a special launch event in Paris to introduce a new softshell fabric technology.
The new fabric, Power Shield Pro, will be on display at major outdoor exhibitions at the start of 2010, with brands including 66 North, Eider, Lowe Alpine, Millet, Montura, Mountain Equipment, The North Face, Norrona and Trangoworld, all preparing to use it in collections that will hit retail later in the year.
Power Shield Pro is a laminate that can offer a combination of poly or nylon woven face fabrics paired with lightweight to high loft backs. In between is a proprietary new hydrophobic microporous polyurethane membrane that allows airflow through the entire fabric package, but stops water from penetrating.
The company's global director of marketing, Nate Simmons, said at the launch: "Power Shield Pro spans a wider range of weather and activity levels than any softshell on the market. It will get you home dry, even in in a heavy wet snow, light rain or high output activity."
