Textile sector invests in Peru

Textile companies in Peru have invested nearly $700 million in the last five years, according to the National Society of Industries (SNI).

The manager of the textile committee of the SNI, Martin Reaño, said a free trade agreement with the US and increased demand from other markets such as Venzuela were the main reasons for the investment.

He pointed to Topy Top as an example. The yarn manufacturer has opened a new plant at Lurin, south of Lima, investing $24 million in new machinery. The factory has the capacity to produce almost 20 tonnes of cotton thread per day, and already employs more than 6,500 people.
