New roller blade wins innovation award

The Oxylane Group, parent company of sports retail chain and manufacturer Decathlon, has awarded its internal innovation award for 2009 to a new roller-blade product called Diabolo.

The product, designed by Oxelo, the group’s dedicated (ice and asphalt) skating brand, will become available in retail stores across the group from spring 2010.

A focus group of 1,300 gathered at Oxylane’s headquarters near Lille to vote on a variety of new products from brands across the group and the Diabolo won the day. It’s an innovative product  because it makes it easier for skaters to brake without slipping and also reduces their braking-distance by an average of 38%, Oxelo said.
