JJB Sports appoints new chief executive

UK-based sports retail chain JJB Sports has appointed Keith Jones, the international group retail director of consumer electronics chain DSG International, as its new chief executive. He will take up his new position no later than March.

JJB issued a statement saying it had selected Mr Jones for his depth of knowledge of the retail industry and said it was confident he could help the sports group continue its recovery under a strategy headed 'Serious About Sport’. The strategy’s title is believed by some observers to be a tacit criticism of major rival JD Sports, which has taken a much more fashion-focused approach in recent years.

JJB chairman, Sir David Jones, said: “I am delighted to welcome someone of Keith’s calibre as chief executive. JJB has been through a lot in the past year but we have now reached a stage where we have the funding, the strategy and the team to plan for the future. I am looking forward to working closely with him to ensure the group’s commercial and financial success.”
