Vaude wins environmental praise

11/12/2009

Outdoor and mountain sports clothing, footwear and equipment brand Vaude has passed an environmental audit with flying colours.

The company subjected itself to the voluntary Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), set up by the European Union to monitor and improve companies’ environmental performance.

The exercise involves companies submitting their own environmental plans, which are then checked by an external auditor. EMAS auditor Dr Udo Ammon described what the German company is doing in this area as “exemplary”.

In her introduction to the company plan, Vaude’s owner and chief executive, Antje von Dewitz, said: “Businesses have an obligation, to their employees, to their customers and to the environment at large. Social and environmental responsibility is a vital part of our company culture. As a German mountain sports supplier, we sell products designed for use in the outdoors. So it makes sense for us to take the preservation of nature very seriously.”
