New socks can prevent hockey injuries

Montreal-based Intelligent Apparel has launched a new sock dedicated to the sport of ice hockey.
The company has claimed that the new Tactics Armoured Skate Socks are “the most innovative sock in hockey today” because it has used advanced technical textiles including Kevlar from DuPont, Coolmax Xtralife from Invista, and Solefresh yarn infused with Alphasan, form O’Mara and Milliken, in their construction.
Ice hockey is widely known as one of the world's fastest and most dangerous sports. In the past two NHL seasons, star players Andrei Markov, Cam Ward, Kevin Bieksa, Teemu Salanne, Robert Lang and Joe Corvo have all sustained serious cuts from skate blades. Currently, the Achilles tendons and calf muscles are vulnerable to laceration caused by other player’s skates. For this reason, Intelligent Apparel believes it is filling a current void in the protective hockey equipment industry by launching the new socks.
“Tactics Armoured Hockey Socks are a direct response to hockey organisations’ interest in enhancing player safety,” said Marshall Ferneyhough, director of sales for Intelligent Apparel. “These past few seasons have been particularly plagued with severe skate blade injuries that could end a player’s season, if not career. Our goal was to develop a skate sock that would perform and protect at the highest level of sport.”
