Rossignol confident of return to profit

The chief executive of ski brand Rossignol has insisted that the company can continue to be a leader in the ski market in spite of the troubles it has experienced in the last 12 months.

Rossignol was sold by sports group Quiksilver in 2008 after poor results and, in the course of 2009, found itself obliged to shed one-third of its workforce. But chief executive, Bruno Cercley, has insisted better times lie ahead.

At a ceremony to mark the opening of new headquarters at
Saint-Jean-de-Moirans, near the French Alps, Mr Cercley told Agence France Presse: “The Rossignol group has been saved, and our ambition is to remain the global number-one in skiing.”

He said the company’s losses had been contained and that he was confident of registering before-tax profits of between €2 million and €5 million for the current fiscal year, which ends on March 31. “This is an enormous turnaround,” he said, “because the result for the fiscal year ending March 2008 was a loss of €42 million.”
