Specific shoe for tennis training

Sports brand adidas has launched a new shoe specifically intended for tennis training.
The company said the new CYD Reflex is designed to allow tennis players at all levels to get the most out of their training sessions. Balance and footwork are key workouts for any tennis player preparing them to act, react or attack. These exercises take their toll on the body and also on footwear requiring a unique shoe with tennis training specific features, rather than asking players just to make do with ordinary running shoes, adidas argues.
Gil Reyes, conditioning coach of the adidas Player Development Programme said at the new shoe’s launch: “Tennis players spend 70% of their time training and preparing for their next tournament. That's why wearing the right training footwear is vital for future on-court success. Conditioning in the gym, during drills or hitting practice creates stronger legs. Strong legs are key to any top athlete and, simply put, weak legs command while strong legs obey. Strong legs will get you in perfect position, keep you in good balance anywhere on the court, point after point at any phase of the game.”
The new shoe features adidas’s proprietary ClimaCool technology in the upper to keep the foot at its optimum training temperature no matter how hot a session gets. This 360-degree ventilation system transports heat and sweat way from the foot and out of the shoe. With your foot at a comfortable temperature adiPRENE, a highly absorbent, proprietary shock material, cushions your heel on impact ensuring even the most jolting drill movements cause minimum discomfort to the foot and ankle.
Normal running and gym shoes are not designed to withstand or support the sudden movements required in tennis training, adidas says, that’s why the CYD Reflex features Speedcut, a technology designed to reduce the forefoot strain of extreme side-to-side movements so players can maintain speed and performance while reducing the risk of injury.
Former world number one Dinara Safina said at the time of the launch: “Players’ spend the majority of their season on hard courts either playing or training. Therefore it’s really important to have the CYD Reflex which provides the maximum comfort and support and reduces the stress we sometimes put on our feet. Now I only need one shoe for my running and drills on court.”
The shoe also has adiTUFF abrasion-resistance rubber in the toe and lateral forefoot to protect against excessive wear from toe-dragging, while adiWEAR non-marking rubber used in the Herringbone outsole will provide control on hard-courts and sliding options on clay.
The CYD Reflex went on sale in key tennis markets including the US, UK, Mexico, China, Australia and Japan worldwide from December 1 at a recommended retail price of €100 or $100. The shoe comes in four colour combinations: white with black stripes and acid buzz or teal trimming for men and white with orange or black stripes and magenta detailing for women. Graphic tees and hoodies and training pants complete the CYD Reflex offering.
