Lighter, softer fabrics from Schoeller
Schoeller Textiles has issued new textile and fabric trend predictions for the autumn-winter 2011-2012 season.
According to the company, surfaces with wearable structures, translucent and strong ripstops, 3-D optics and masculine woollen articles will be big for the season. With autumn and winter fabrics becoming ever lighter, warm fleece and next-to-skin linings will also feature heavily. Natural colours in stone shades or crystalline hues will be used alongside neon colours. In terms of functionality, the new collection for mountain and snow sports is designed to offer permanent elasticity, protection, lasting comfort, durability and individual climate control.
The company’s ripstop fabrics offer a high level of resistance to ripping and tearing and Schoeller uses this weaving technique for its new schoeller-dryskin fabrics. Despite the reduced weight, trousers made from these fabrics are said to be hardwearing yet gentle on the skin. The palette of colours ranges from stone-like greys to slightly muddy pastels. The range also includes ultra-fine ripstops with a fluffy fleece reverse in the schoeller-WB-400 range, which offers bi-elastic jackets and trousers for a variety of winter sports.
The schoeller-WB-400 collection features black as well as strong reds, greens and yellows, which take on a slightly shimmering effect. These fabrics incorporate the c_change membrane to ensure water and windproofing, breathability and freedom of movement for skiers and snowboarders.
The schoeller-aeroshell line, featuring the new honeycomb 3-D fabric, can be squeezed, squashed and compressed as well as being lightweight. “Designers will have fun with the compact and almost “foamy" fabric, like transforming a spring and autumn coat into a trendy multiwear tool with the addition of an integrated backpack,” the company says. The fabric will be available in bright neon colour combinations including orange/yellow and violet/orange. The aeroshell fabrics offer stretch, comfort and breathability.
Finally, the new collection of Lifestyle schoeller-WB-400 soft shells in cotton-wool blends offer a classic look with a warming fleece reverse. The range includes a viscose-polyester-elastane blend and a new wool-polyester blend, which is combined with a soft outer material and a windproof membrane. Another new addition is a schoeller-naturetec-soft-shell which features brushed wool on the inside of the fabric.
