High hopes for Hanoi textiles
Officials in Hanoi, Vietnam, have set some ambitious export targets for the capital in 2010. The new export target of $6.7 billion is 5% higher than the 2009 target, according to the Department of Trade and Industry.
Exports of textiles, garments, shoes and handicrafts to the US, Japan and the EU have been specified as potential drivers of increased export turnover. The city’s major export markets are the US, Japan, China, the EU, Africa and Western Asia.
Furthermore, exports of machinery, clothing and shoes are among the exports that have been prioritised for shipping to New Zealand and Australia.
Hanoi’s export turnover fell 7.8% in 2009 compared with 2008 figures.
