Hotter outdoor gear at Columbia Sportswear

20/01/2010

Columbia Sportswear is launching its new suite of Omni-Heat technologies at SHOT Show in Las Vegas (which runs January 19-22) and at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City (January 21-24).

According to the outdoor specialist, its Omni-Heat Thermal Reflective regulates body temperature using a dot-matrix application of reflective material on a moisture-wicking, air-permeable baselayer, which work together to reflect and retain body warmth while dissipating excess heat.

It claims its Omni-Heat Thermal Insulation provides the industry's highest level of heat retention per gram using a new insulation that uses 50% recycled materials.

Meanwhile, Omni-Heat Thermal Electric allows consumers to keep their feet warm by activating battery-powered heating elements in the footbed in select Columbia boot styles, including the Bugathermo Techlite boot for men and the Snowfall Thermo for women.

"Columbia is taking a leadership role in the outdoor industry by bringing meaningful and easy-to-understand innovations that deliver real benefits to a broad set of outdoor consumers," said Mick McCormick, executive vice president of global sales and marketing. "Omni-Heat, which we believe is the first visible warmth technology in outdoor apparel, is just the beginning."

The technology will make its global retail debut in the autumn in nearly 100 styles of apparel, footwear and accessories.
