Vietnam’s textile target rises

22/01/2010

Textile and garment exports were Vietnam’s highest export earner in 2009, and it is hoped the sector’s turnover will be even higher in 2010.

According to the Vietnam Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex), the country’s textile and garment exports totalled $9.1 billion in 2009, flat with 2008 figures. Domestic fabric production and sales turnover also rose, with production up 9% and sales rising 10%.

On the back of these positive results, the company’s target for the sector in 2010 is $10.5 billion. According to Vinatex, the increase can be achieved by increasing productivity and effectiveness, producing more high-end goods, investing in market research and implementing international standards such as ISO 9000 and ISO 14000.
