ispo Trophy 2010 for Oliver Kahn

15/02/2010

German football’s most successful goalkeeper of all time, Oliver Kahn, is this year’s recipient of the ispo Trophy. Launched in 1971, this special award honours top athletes who, after ending their career, continue to act as major role models for today’s youth. The ispo organisers selected Oliver Kahn because of his work on a number of different youth projects after his athletic career ended in 2008.

Oliver Kahn signed for Bayern Munich in 1994 and played the first of 86 games for the German national team on June 23 1995. He was voted World’s Best Goalkeeper in 1999, 2001 and 2002.

Today, he is involved in youth motivation programmes at Bavarian schools. Because he is also passionate about golf, Oliver Kahn has become an active ambassador for Germany’s bid to host the 2018 Ryder Cup.

He received the trophy from Klaus Dittrich, chief executive of ispo organiser Messe München at a special ceremony during the 2010 event on February 7.
