Pearl Izumi aims to help runners stay cool

Sports brand Pearl Izumi has introduced a temperature-regulating fabric that it has called In-R-Cool. The company says apparel made from the new fabric will help runners control their body temperature and stay cool, making it easier for them to perform at a higher level.

Many of the items in the company’s P.R.O. Series Fly collection—including running shorts, shirts and jackets—have incorporated the new technology. Pearl Izumi claims that, unlike typical polyester-based products, In-R-Cool reduces overheating and increases comfort by reducing perspiration.

It also brings the reflective cooling benefits of white fabrics to dark fabrics, reducing perspiration by half, in comparison to traditional black fabrics. By reflecting UV light, In-R-Cool reduces the fabric’s surface temperature to the same temperature as a white fabric and provides UPF 50+ sun protection.

The brand has also launched a new lightweight running shoe called the SyncroFuel for high-performance road and trail runners.

The shoe offers what Pearl Izumi has called “mild pronation control and excellent cushioning” for training or racing. It features a seamless race upper to make the fit better and has mesh at the mid-foot and forefoot to increase breathability and comfort.
