A long-sleeve, roll-neck adidas baselayer garment used by athletes and officials at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver featured drirelease fabric from Optimer.

The sports brand chose drirelease E.C.O. (Environmentally Correct Origins) Wool technology, which uses 77% recycled polyester, for the garment. It was not a competition apparel piece, but designed to keep athletes warm and comfortable pre- and post-races.

“Keeping these world-class athletes warm, dry, and comfortable is of utmost importance,” said Dustin Cohn, chief marketing officer for drirelease. “The fabric ensures the quick drying and comfort necessary for them to be ready to compete. Additionally, the use of recycled materials makes drirelease E.C.O. Wool a perfect fit for a range of brands’ sustainability programmes.”

Chris Moore, general manager of Optimer Labs, commented: “We take great pride in our products, and are thrilled to provide these athletes with technology that combines performance with environmental consciousness. The use of our fabric by adidas for this garment is one of the highest forms of flattery that we could receive.”
