India’s technical textile sector to double

India’s technical textiles sector is expected to almost double in size over the next four to five according to a study from trade association ASSOCHAM. The organisation claims the driver for growth will be increased demand from middle-class consumers in the country.

ASSOCHAM president, Swati Piramal , believes its domestic technical textiles market will grow at an average yearly rate of more than 10-12% over the next four to five years.

The study reveals that the main driving forces are expected to be medical, automotive, geo-textiles and hygienic products. However, multi-layer sportswear fabrics and protective fabrics will also be important growth drivers.
