Lenzing satisfied with 2009 results
The Lenzing group feels it achieved satisfactory results in 2009, despite the difficult global economic situation. Sales fell to €1.25 billion compared with €1.33 billion in 2008, primarily because of weaker fibre prices. Net debt was reduced to €315.7 million compared with €365.4 million.
As in previous years, the fibres segment dominated sales in 2009 with a share of 85.9% or €1.09 billion. Total fibre production totalled 568,600 tonnes compared with 540,300 tonnes in 2008.
Management board member Friedrich Weninger said: “After the price collapse at the end of 2008 we were able to implement price increases again from the second quarter 2009 on. In addition, our special product segment had not been affected that severely by the decline in prices and quantity demand. And we were successful with innovative products and partnerships with leading textile suppliers, as well as in the nonwovens sector.”
