Pakistan’s textile exports up 4%
According to Pakistan’s Federal Bureau of Statistics, the country’s textile exports rose 4.3% to $6.7 billion between July 2009 and February 2010. Textiles accounted for more than 50% of the country’s total exports during the period, which totalled $12.4 billion (+2.7%).
Pakistan’s textile ministry has attributed the rise to a decline in global cotton production (-13%), particularly in China, which has led to a rise in cotton yarn exports.
The country’s yarn exports grew 38.5% to 461.3 million kilogrammes compared with 333.1 million kilogrammes during the same period the previous year. In value terms, yarn exports were up 29.4% to $956.8 million compared with $739.4 million.
