Food company launches women’s cycling apparel start-up

The company behind the Luna nutrition bar has announced that it is setting up a new sports apparel company under the same name. The new start-up, Luna Sport, will focus on high-end cycling and athletic clothing for women.
Founders, Kit Crawford and Gary Erickson, said they had been inspired to make this move by the success of a professional cycling team for women in California, which they have sponsored, the Luna Chix Pro Team. The design of the new company’s clothing products has had the input of these professional athletes, resulting, Luna Sport says, in “refreshingly tasteful, designs, with beautiful colour-blocking and subtle prints”. It also points out that the inaugural collection uses recycled and natural-fibre fabrics “whenever possible” and minimises “wasteful packaging”.
On announcing the launch, Kit Crawford commented: “Over the past eight years Luna Chix Pro Team members have won hundreds of races, become world champions, set Ironman records, and competed in the Olympics. Their unmatched athletic experience enables us to develop, test, and refine the most unique, authentic women’s cycling clothing available. We are committed to creating great-looking and -fitting, performance-driven clothes from a blank canvas; clothing for women who want to look and feel great on their bikes.”
Luna Sport will donate 1% of its annual gross revenue towards ongoing support of the Breast Cancer Fund. The food company that gave birth to Luna Sport has already donated more than $3 million to the Breast Cancer Fund over the past 10 years through direct donations and fundraising programmes.
