Nike goes retro on US soccer shirt design
29/04/2010
The US men’s national soccer team has unveiled its new home kit.
The team will wear the shirts on the field for the first time during a series of friendly matches in advance of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, and at the world’s biggest football competition itself.
Supplied by Nike, the new shirt is white with a tonal grey sash across the front of the right shoulder to the left side, and includes an obsidian blue round-neck collar. The design echoes the shirts worn by the US during the 1950 FIFA World Cup in Brazil in which the team defeated England 1-0 in one of the biggest upsets in the history of soccer.
The jersey is entirely constructed from recycled polyester from plastic bottles and features improved Nike Dri-FIT fabric. It is now 13% lighter than previous Nike kits, which helps to evaporate moisture more quickly and keep players dry.
