Bangladesh lifts Indian yarn ban
According to Bangladesh’s Board of Revenue, the company has lifted its ban on Indian yarn imports. The aim, it says, is to reduce raw material prices.
Indian yarn can now be imported to Bangladesh though the Benapole land port. The move was welcomed by many workers from the textile sector, who had been striking in the hope the government would permit the duty-free import of Indian yarn. The majority have now returned to work. Many units had closed or reduced capacity because yarn prices were so high.
However, Textile Mills Association president, Abdul Hai Sarker, said the decision would ultimately harm domestic yarn producers.
