Fewer Indian textile jobs
According to the Indian government, employment within the textile sector has fallen once again. Its survey covering the period January to March shows the economic slowdown is continuing to affect employment figures.
The study showed that overall employment in the eight selected sectors (textiles and apparel, leather, metals, automobiles, gems and jewellery, transport, IT and handloom/powerloom) rose by 16% year-on-year, led by an increase in the IT sector.
The textile and apparel segment was the only one to show a significant decline.
Earnings increased across all sectors apart from leather sector earnings, which fell 1.4%. Earnings were up 7.1% overall.
