Governor welcomes new adidas centre
Governor Mark Sanford joined state and local leaders as well as officials from adidas at the official opening of the sportswear company’s distribution and customer service centre in Spartanburg (see sportstextiles 21.05.10).
“This grand opening isn’t just great news for the upstate’s economy; it’s also further evidence that our state is reaping real dividends on the economic development front,” Governor Sanford said. “The Spartanburg operation is the end result of a consolidation effort involving seven centres in three different states. The fact that adidas chose South Carolina speaks volumes about our competitiveness as a state, and I’d simply say thank you to the leadership at adidas for placing that level of confidence in our workforce.
The 1.9 million square-foot distribution centre is the company’s largest in the US. It will employ approximately 1,200 workers and involved an investment of $150 million.
