Coldblack and Descente team up to sponsor triathlete

01/06/2010
Australian triathlete Paul Ambrose has signed a new deal to race globally in apparel enhanced with coldblack finishing technology from Schoeller Technologies from US cycling apparel and equipment brand Descente.

Coldblack’s special finishing technology reduces heat build-up and provides reliable protection from ultraviolet rays. Descente first introduced it to its spring 2010 collection, in products such as the all-black Avanti cycling shorts, bib shorts, and jersey and several pieces from the C6 triathlon collection.

Schoeller Technologies argues that, during training and racing, an athlete is directly affected by core and surface temperatures, but cannot control how heat will affect performance. It cites tests that have shown that when perspiration causes a fluid loss of 2% of body weight, performance capacity can drop by up to 20%.

Coldblack has a twofold protective function. It helps athletes stay cooler under heat by reflecting 80% of heat rays and offering a minimum ultraviolet protection factor of 30. The treatment is bluesign-compliant, which offers a guarantee that it contains no components or processes hazardous to people or the environment. The treatment will not wash out in
regular household laundry or in prolonged use.
