Hohenstein Institute expands international presence

Research and testing organisation the Hohenstein Institute has opened a series of new contact offices in different parts of the world.

In view of what it refers to as an increased flow of goods into the US, the organisation has greatly expanded its presence in Latin America, opening new contact offices there, in the Dominican Republic, one for El Salvador and Guatemala, and two in Colombia.

The Hohenstein Institute has also opened a new office in Ahmedabad, its fifth in a region in which it already has a presence in three other Indian cities—Mumbai, Delhi and Tirupur—and Colombo in Sri Lanka.

The organisation has been present in Turkey for many years but moved into new premises on May 14.

All the new contact offices (with the exception of Guatemala) are official information centres of the Oeko-Tex Association. Their primary mission is to handle product certification according to Oeko-Tex Standard 100. In addition, interested companies have available to them the numerous
consulting, testing and certification services of the Hohenstein Institute. These services range from testing compliance with legal requirements to the evaluation of product characteristics such as size, workmanship or wear comfort, as well as providing evidence of special functionality such as the antimicrobial effects of textiles.

With reference to the import of textile products into the US, the Hohenstein Institute is among the bodies that have been accredited by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) as an independent testing laboratory for determination of total lead content in products for children.

The Hohenstein Institute has said that the authorities in the US also recognise Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification as proof of compliance with current limits for total lead content.
