Polartec celebrates Jordan’s Everest record

Performance fabrics manufacturer Polartec has issued a statement to congratulate 13-year-old Jordan Romero on becoming the youngest person ever to reach the summit of Mount Everest.
The young climber, who is from California, completed the climb on May 22. At the start of this year, Polartec named Jordan Romero as one of the winners of its annual Challenge Grant, a programme that seeks to assist frugal, low-impact outdoor expedition teams who respect the local culture and environment, and serve as role models to outdoor enthusiasts worldwide.
The company said it wanted to support his attempt to become the youngest person ever to conquer the Seven Summits, climbing the highest mountains of each continent, with a couple of extra mountains included because of disputes about the continents to which some peaks belong. Jordan Romero plans to complete the programme later this year by climbing Mount Vinson in Antarctica.
“We’re incredibly proud of Jordan and his family and happy to be long-time supporters,” said Polartec’s global marketing director, Nate Simmons, on announcing the Everest news. “As our country faces epidemic levels of childhood obesity and inactivity, role models like Jordan are critically important to both the outdoor industry and the health of our nation.”
He began his quest for the Seven Summits in July 2006. The mountains in question are Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa; the Vinson Massif, Antarctica; Mount Kosciuszko, Australia; Mount Everest, Asia; Mount McKinley, North America; Mount Aconcagua, South America; and Mount Elbrus, Europe.
