Time-poor enthusiasts turn to trail running

The stresses and strains of twenty-first century life are helping to make trail running ever more popular, an Australian running association has said.

Greg Waite of the Trail Running Association of Queensland has told sportstextiles.com that the pressures of work and modern living are making trail running—which usually takes place on off road trails with the length varying between five and 50 kilometres—appealing to ever growing numbers of people. “Trail running appeals since time in nature is the opposite of time at work: it’s physical, natural and enjoyable,” Mr Waite said. “Trail runs are growing exponentially, while road runs are stagnating.”

He added: “The other driver is the need for brief activities for time-poor people. Trail running is growing in Australia while bushwalking (often involving overnight trips) is declining.”
