Swedish silver technology is just right for Polartec

Performance fabric manufacturer Polartec has announced a new partnership with Swedish company Polygiene, maker of bluesign-approved silver-salt odour-resistant technology for fabrics.

“Silver-salt is a highly effective odour-resistant technology and Polygiene’s bluesign endorsement makes them an extremely compelling option for Polartec and, more importantly, for our customers and consumers,” said Polartec executive vice-president for sales and marketing, Jon Adelman, on announcing the development. “Most Polartec fabrics are bluesign-approved already and converting to Polygiene rounds out the complete collection.”

Polygiene technology provides an antimicrobial effect that controls odour caused by microorganisms breaking down. The company says its technology applies silver ions to fabrics to “inhibit the growth of odour-causing bacteria and promote a feeling of freshness across a wide range of activities”. As well as receiving bluesign approval, Polygiene has been included by Oeko-Tex in its list of safe products. The Polygiene treatment is permanent for the life of the garment and uses 100% recycled silver.

Polartec is launching Polygiene in its Polartec Power Dry baselayer fabrics.
The resulting product, Polartec Power Dry with Polygiene, will be available to consumers in the spring of 2011.

Polartec Power Dry is designed to keep skin dry when you sweat and is recommended by the manufacturer as a next-to-skin fabric for garments for runners, skiers, climbers and other adventure-seekers. Polartec Power Dry fabric features patented bi-component knit construction that uses different yarns on either side of the fabric to create two different surfaces: one to move moisture away from the skin and the other to dry quickly.
