Rieter in search for oldest textile machine

17/06/2010
Swiss textile machinery manufacturer Rieter has launched an unusual competition.

The company has been making machines for the textile industry for more than 200 years. It has asked user companies spinning yarns and fibres to get in touch to tell it about their oldest machines. It wants to find the oldest Rieter machine that is still in daily use in any factory around the world. Machines under the brand names Rieter, Schuber & Salzer and Ingolstadt Machine Works are all valid for consideration.

Customers are requested to send a photo of the machine and further relevant details to Rieter.

The customer who is operating the oldest machine can win a flight and two nights' accommodation to attend the ITMA exhibition in Barcelona in 2011.

Rieter's idea is to highlight the robustness of its machines, saying this is the reason demand for them on the second-hand market is high.
