Brazil postpones sanctions after US promises action on cotton

18/06/2010
The Brazilian government has said it will give the US until 2012 before implementing trade sanctions after the US promised to take action on subsidies it pays to its cotton farmers.

More than 100 products from the US face possible tariffs on entering the Brazilian market. The South American country has threatened to take this action as a retaliation for what it views as an unfair subsidy and export credit guarantee regime for cotton farmers in the US.

The US has said it will amend its practice in this area.
