The oranisers of the 2010 Théophile Legrand International Award for Textile Innovation have issued a statement saying that people interested in taking part have until September 10 to submit their entries.

The winner, to be announced in November, will receive €10,000 from the Théophile Legrand Foundation.

The foundation was set up in 2007 to celebrate and reward creative and innovative textile research that has real potential to make an impact in industrial applications. It is named after the man who was the driving force behind the growth of the textile industry in northern France in the nineteenth century, especially in the town of Fourmies. Théophile Legrand promoted a move away from cotton towards using wool and set up the first steam-powered textile mill in the town.

Candidates for the award can be from any country; they must send by email an application letter, a full CV and a maximum of five pages detailing their research, in either French or English. The address for entries, and for further information, is theophile-legrand@hotmail.com.

An awards ceremony will take place in Fourmies on the evening of Friday, November 19. As well as the main prize, the foundation will also award a second prize of €8,000.
