Kitesurfing brand Cabrinha will host the first annual Cabrinha Northwest Race Series at Jetty Island in Everett, Washington on June 26 and 27, and July 24 and 25, the company has announced.

The sport, which some enthusiasts have dubbed “the new-age golf”, is similar to windsurfing, but instead of a sail, participants use a large inflated kite to power their board through water.

Jetty Island is a popular location because it has warm, shallow waters and smooth, predictable winds.

“This race is a big deal for the local kiteboarding community,”
said race director, Walter Young. “It will be the first of its kind for the area.”

Other sponsors of the event include Hyperflex Wetsuits and specialist clothing brand Transcend Apparel.
