Special socks help Watson to first PGA Tour win

After clinching his first PGA Tour win on June 27 in Cromwell, Connecticut, at the Travelers Championship in a two-hole sudden death playoff golfer Bubba Watson confirmed that he had worn Kentwool Tour Profile golf socks, benefiting from what the textile company calls “proprietary, blister-free, fatigue-reducing performance yarns to stay dry and comfortable”. He overcame a six-stroke deficit to defeat US Ryder Cup captain, Corey Pavin, and tour veteran Scott Verplank in the playoff.

“Kentwool socks are the most comfortable I’ve ever worn,” he said later.

The win earned the 31-year-old $1.08 million and moved him into eighth place in the FedEx Cup rankings.

Kentwool president, Mark Kent, commented: “We are thrilled to see Bubba break through as he greatly deserves it. We’re also gratified our socks played a role, allowing Bubba to think about his game, not his feet, all week and during the pressure-packed playoff.”

The socks are made from a proprietary blend of natural and high-tech fibres that creates a micro-climate system for high levels of moisture management and wicking, as well as odour control. Enhanced cushioning at strategic micro-stress points along the foot result in “abrasion-proof comfort” and specially engineered heel, toe and bridge elements provide extra support and protection against injury.

Other tour players who wear the socks include Charles Warren, Kevin Johnson, Dustin Bray, Kristy McPherson, Sarah Kemp, Jenny Gleason and Anna Scott.
