Apparel strike called off in Cambodia

Plans for a three-day strike in Cambodia have been called off by president of the Free Trade Union (FTU), Chea Mony.

Mr Mony said the strike, which was due to start on July 13 would no longer go ahead because the decision to increase the minimum wage for textile and apparel workers was acceptable.

According to reports, the FTU president said last week that the wage rise was insufficient and would make little difference to garment producers. However, he announced at a meeting on July 12 that this was not the case.

He added that the FTU would continue to push for further concessions from employers within the industry.
