Canadian outdoor brand Arc’Teryx has expanded the women’s apparel category in its newly launched spring 2011 collection.

The new collection has what the Vancouver-based company calls “and expanded activewear range for outdoor exploits”, as well as casual wear that “embodies the mountain spirit”. Designs are sport-specific, it adds, and fits and fabrics are “functional”.

The clothes have been developed to mimic women’s bodies in motion to improve comfort and mobility. Aspects such as patterning, shape, silhouette, and seam- and gusset-placement have been produced with these requirements in mind.

The new women-specific garments fall into two main categories: Endorphin and Trail.

Arc’Teryx describes Endorphin garments as “perfect for high-output aerobic sports like running, adventure racing and trail hiking”. They are made with lightweight, air-permeable textiles that offer high levels of moisture management.

Examples include the Kapta Zip SS, a versatile short-sleeved shirt with polyester mesh panels under the arms and on the back to make it suitable for indoor and outdoor workouts, the new Cita Series of athletic bras, tops, tanks and tights, and the new Solita jacket, engineered to deliver regulated warmth, comfort and versatility using moisture-wicking brushed polyester.

The new Trail collection offers breathable, quick-drying and compressible items that can be easily pulled from a backpack when needed. It includes the Mentum series of sleeveless, short- and long-sleeved crew tops, as well as an activewear skort in single-knit polyester jersey fabric with spandex.
