Association launches ‘Minimal Impact’ guide
30/07/2010
The guide includes clear advice, with specific tips for a range of activities, including hill walking, climbing and camping. Minimal Impact is free to the general public and is available to read and print on www.outdoorindustriesassociation.co.uk.
Every year, a greater proportion of the population is participating in outdoor activities in the UK, with wide ranging implications, the organisation said. More people are heading to the hills with limited experience and preparation. This is putting pressure on services such as Mountain Rescue, which in 2009 experienced a 21% increase in incidents compared to the previous year, reaching the highest level ever. In addition, behaviour and actions that are acceptable in urban areas can have a very negative effect on the outdoor environment. The OIA commissioned Minimal Impact to provide the public with easy to read and digest advice, for making the most of the outdoors without causing significant or long term damage.
