Amer Sports boosts sales and narrows losses in Q2

05/08/2010
Finnish group Amer Sports Corporation, parent of outdoor brands such as Arc'Teryx and Salomon, has reported second-quarter sales of EUR 317.5 million, an increase of 12% on the same period last year, on which it made a loss of EUR 16.9 million. Losses were 42% lower than in the second quarter of 2009.

Chief executive, Heikki Takala, commented on announcing the results: “In the second quarter, we continued to increase growth and profitability to target levels. Earnings improved in all our business segments except in fitness, where particularly the US market remained sluggish. Pre-orders in winter sports equipment for the next season are up by approximately 15%. In apparel and footwear, the order book for the fall-winter season also indicates faster sales growth than in the first half of this year. Despite the positive developments, we still have a way to go to reach our target performance levels.”
