Faytex to put DuPont Sorona into Dri-Lex Eco

06/08/2010
Footwear moisture management technology provider Faytex Corp has announced an exclusive agreement to design, develop and market new footwear fabrics containing yarns from DuPont Sorona renewably sourced polymer. The new products will form part of the Dri-Lex Eco collection. The announcement was made at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market exhibition in August.

“We’re very excited about this opportunity for a number of reasons,” said Faytex General Manager Cindy Stangl. “First and foremost, DuPont is highly respected and recognised throughout the world as an innovator of quality products and a leader in polymer and fibre innovation. Sorona, the newest polymer from DuPont, extends the sustainable part of our Dri-Lex Eco line so we now can offer both recycled and renewable fabrics in combinations that meet almost any footwear need. The properties of Sorona—soft hand, resilience, and effective moisture movement—also mean that we’re producing a newer, better version of Dri-Lex. It works so well within our many Dri-Lex constructions that we’re even calling it the ‘next generation’ of Dri-Lex.”

Speaking for DuPont, global apparel segment manager for Sorona, Larry Chen said: “DuPont sees enormous potential for Sorona within the footwear industry. So different from other polymers that the Federal Trade Commission granted it generic status under the name triexta in 2009, Sorona has great potential in footwear and apparel. It’s primarily a performance fibre, plus it offers sustainability benefits. And, what better way for us to introduce Sorona to the footwear market than with an industry leader such as Faytex, whose Dri-Lex fabrics have set the standard in moisture management for more than two decades.”

Available in blends containing at least 31% Sorona yarns, the first six Dri-Lex Eco fabrics will be available for immediate delivery with many more fabrics currently in development.
