Glenmuir receives PGA award

Scotland-based golf apparel brand Glenmuir has been recognised for its work with the PGA of Great Britain and Ireland over the last 25 years.

The company’s managing director, Colin Mee, was presented with a special 25-year PGA Plaque by PGA Captain, Jim Farmer, at this year’s Open Championship.

Glenmuir's close affiliation with the PGA began in 1985 when PGA chief executive, Sandy Jones, asked the company to sponsor an assistant pro event in his then role as Scottish regional secretary. The company has become the longest-running sponsor of the PGA Professional Championship as well as supporting various other events and initiatives, including the PGA Cup. Its clothing is supplied to staff in the seven PGA regions and to the PGA professionals who coach and demonstrate golf at The Open.
Mr Jones, said: "It doesn't seem like yesterday that I first approached Glenmuir about sponsoring a small Scottish assistants' event, but I have to admit little did I imagine that it would be the start of a relationship that would last 25 years.
"However, I'm not surprised because both the PGA and Glenmuir share many values in terms of their commitment to growing and promoting the game and the strength of that relationship is reflected in their on-going support of the PGA professional.
"It's for that reason that we decided to recognise their long-standing support of the PGA at both regional and national level and we're delighted that Colin Mee was able to receive this special plaque from PGA captain Jim Farmer.”
