While human suffering resulting from the devastating floods in Pakistan during July and August this year rightly remain at the forefront of people's minds, it is worth noting that at least a million bales of cotton have been damaged, textile industry sources have said.

Local media have quoted industry sources as saying a total of 540,000 acres of cotton sowing area in southern Punjab and the standing cotton crop have been badly damaged.

The same sources said prices are likely to keep increasing until the rains stop.
