ecoGear launches new yogawear line
20/08/2010
It specialises in fabric made from recycled fibres, composed of 65% cotton clippings from clothing factories and 35% post-consumer recycled polyester yarns. The cotton clippings define the colour of the clothing.
“Colour consistency is not an issue for us,” said Robert Hii, the general manager of the company at the time of the launch. “If you look at the options for producing truly eco-friendly clothing, you can have either everything in greige goods, which is the beigey colour that cotton comes in naturally, or, you can have coloured clothing. Between the two, we felt that coloured recycled fibres make a more eco-friendly and commercially competitive product. Our mission is to displace textiles that are damaging to the environment in its land, water, energy and chemical use.”
The company has also rolled out a collection of basic yoga items using viscose from jute, calling the collection its anti-nylon option. Robert Hii said: “We are introducing jute viscose in a basic camisole, featherweight tee and three styles of women’s underwear.”
