Facebook promotion for Insect Shield
27/08/2010
To attract customers, it arranged to give away a hammock, a T-shirt and a bandana (all with its insect-repelling technology) and a mosquito net to one of the people registered as Facebook fans of the company.
It said it would repeat the exercise at regular intervals in the future, offering gear from brand partners as well as its own products as prizes.
Insect Shield's technology is based on binding into fabric a safe, durable and odourless application of insect repellent permethrin. Apparel in the range can typically withstand 70 washes. The technology is approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency.
Companies are increasing their use of social media such as Facebook as part of their marketing strategies. To qualify for this promotion, all \consumers have to do is click the box on Insect Shield's Facebook page to say they 'like' the company. No purchase is necessary, but the company said it would only ship the prizes to people who were resident in the US.
