Spanish textile company joins infrared revolution

Family-run Fivetextil, which has 12 employees in the small town of Carchelejo, has a tradition of making school uniforms as well as sports clothing. After a year of preparation, it has now brought to market a new product called Ekynox, a sports shirt treated with mineral oxides.
The oxides enhance the effect of FIRs, known to be healthy radiations, on the wearer's body leading to improved circulation, which in turn can bring benefits such as pain relief, faster recuperation after competing, faster recovery from injury and so on.
The head of the company, Francisco García, told local media at the time of the launch that Fivetextil had worked with specialist doctors in Switzerland and Italy, and with prominent sports physiotherapists in Spain in the build-up to the commercial release of Ekynox.
He also said that a local sports star, cyclist Javier Moreno, had worn the shirt throughout his preparation for the 2010 Vuelta a España race, which started in Seville on August 28.
Mr García said the company was making 300 Ekynox shirts per day, waiting to see if orders pick up. He said there had already been interest from the Netherlands, the UK, Germany and South America.
