A third Intersport branch opened in South Korea, on September 1. The new store can be found in Gasan-dong, western Seoul, while the existing shops, both of which opened earlier this year, can be found in Garak-dong, southeastern Seoul, and in Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province.

The multi-brand outdoor sportswear store covers approximately 5,000 square-metres and the company claims it is the largest sportswear specialist outlet in the country.

CEO of Intersport International, Franz Julen said that the company chose Korea as its first Asian market because of its similarities to the European market. Speaking at a press conference in the country, he said: “Outdoor sports, team sports and fun aspects are popular in Korea. There is one big difference; currently you have mono brand stores. We aim to bring all brands under one roof. I am convinced we will be successful also in this market,” he said.

Based in Bern, Switzerland, Intersport has more than 5,300 shops in more than 40 countries. It sells a range of top brands including Nike, adidas and Puma.
