New start-up brand launches cold weather protection for men

RunnerTek, a new start-up company based in Chicago, US, is to launch its new ThermaJock line in October. The product targets male endurance athletes who train or play sports during the winter months and are exposed to varying degrees of cold weather.

The garment is a simple design and uses Polartec Thermal Pro material. It is worn in the groin area, fastening in two places for a comfortable fit that prevents it from moving about during sport activities. It is designed to keep the area warm and to prevent chafing.
The idea for the garment came after co-founder, Christina Konstantelos, a Chicago marathon runner heard male runners talking about the difficulties they faced in finding protection for this area during winter runs.
“The first time I didn’t think much about it, but the second and third time I thought maybe there was an unmet need in the marketplace. After further research I began finding documented cases of frostbite in temperatures of 25o F [-4o C] with maximum exposure of 30 minutes. At that point I was convinced we had a viable idea.”
