Monnet socks use Greenfil technology

14/09/2010

France-based outdoor sock producer Monnet is using Greenfil fibre technology, which is produced by French nylon yarn specialist Sofila. According to Sofila spokesperson Augustin Bidault, this is the first time the technology has been used for socks but the company expects other companies to follow suit.

The main advantages it offers, he told sportstextiles.com, include bacteriostaticity and abrasion resistance. The technology is also popular because of its natural origins.

Greenfil yarns are produced using bio-polymers derived from the Ricinus plant and have been developed by in partnership with chemical company Arkema, which supplied its Rilsan polyamide 11 polymer to produce the yarns. Castor oil comes from the beans of the Ricinus plant, which can grow in Africa or Asia on poor lands without irrigation or fertilisers. These beans are not produced from genetically modified seeds and are 100% renewable.
Monnet makes technical socks for a range of outdoor activities including trekking, running, golf and tennis.
