ThermoCool makes Ryder Cup contribution

The items in the European wardrobe included team shirts and sweaters from Glenmuir containing ThermoCool material from polyester fibre manufacturer Advansa. The material’s strength is that it is specifically designed to keep the wearers thermo-regulated and dry by rapidly transporting body heat and perspiration away from the body. It has a blend of hollow and solid fibres that provides a high level of body temperature regulation across a range of external temperatures and activity levels.
When the external temperature is warm, the fibres provide evaporative cooling, allowing vapour to escape and keeping the user cool and comfortable. When it is colder and the wearer is stationary or moving only slowly, as golfers often are, the fibres reduce exposure to external temperatures by trapping body heat and creating a barrier to keep the user warm and thermo-regulated, a process known as thermo-buffering.
Scotland-based Glenmuir was one of the leading golf brands that worked with European Ryder Cup team captain, Colin Montgomerie, to find the best solutions to fluctuating weather conditions at Celtic Manor.
Colin Mee, the brand’s managing director, said afterwards: “In designing The European Ryder Cup Team shirts and sweaters, we had to take into account the variety of weather conditions and find a shirt fabric that would perform as efficiently in blazing sunshine as it would under several layers if the players had to wrap up against the wind and rain. ThermoCool has been specifically developed for those situations.”
For her part, Silvia Toledo, market manager for Advansa, commented: “We are really excited that Glenmuir introduced smart shirts with ThermoCool into its collection for Europe’s Ryder Cup Team and are more than happy that it has contributed to the team’s success.”
